Bible Teachings ARI'El Hungary

Newsletter Ari'El Hungary March 2018

Dear Brothers and Sisters in our Messiah,

While it has been a long time since our last newsletter, for which we apologize, we are very excited to take this moment to share and update all the latest events at Ari'EL Hungary.  First however, we would like to thank you for your support and continued prayers for us and for our ministry.

At the end of 2017, we finished the first part of our Bible study entitled: Revelation: Future Prophetic Events which is based on the book, Footsteps of the Messiah by Dr. Fruchtenbaum. We started this teaching back in October 2016. Ivan taught this topic in great detail, which gave the attendants more time to understand and read the relevant bible verses. We also showed pictures pertinent to the course, which were taken on our two Israel study tours with Dr Fruchtenbaum. In 2018 we will study the Messianic Kingdom. Since January of this year two couples as well as a Messianic believer joined our bible study.

In the Summer of 2017, we attended, on a weekly basis, a Jewish teaching series on the “Shulchan Aruch”, which are the codes of Jewish law. This was organized and taught by our Jewish friend Gabor who allows us to use the space in his art gallery for the Bible study and fellowship.  We were the only Gentile participants among the Jewish people. This was a good opportunity to build new connections with unbelieving Jewish people.

In Ariel’s Fall (autumn issue) magazine, Rita’s article describing the early history of anti-Semitism, was published.  A Jewish believer responded to the article: “I had been called a Christ killer and dirty Jew when I was young.  Thank you so much for writing about the errors which have been taught and passed down through the centuries.”

We also had opportunity to engage in a long discussion with our dear friend Mariann who is a Holocaust survivor, as well as her friend. We spoke about salvation faith in Yeshua.

We were privileged to have two young guests with us, both acquaintances from Camp Shoshanah:  AnnaMae and Ariane. We had a great time with them.

One of the most interesting fellowships we had was with a missionary couple from the United States. This is indeed a marvelous story. They are from Hungary; the man was my (Ivan’s) classmate at Catholic high school. He was one of the worst students. We hadn't seen each other for the last 35 years. But somehow, through the high school mailing list, he recognized my name and saw that we have a ministry. Some years ago, he and his wife became missionaries in Los Angeles in the poorest slum section of the city. He teaches soccer to the Spanish children and they share the gospel. Their testimony was heartbreaking. They enjoyed our messianic fellowship and teaching. Now they follow us on our Home and Facebook pages. They wrote this note to us: “We are following your weekly bible teachings. It was no accident that when we met up you happened to be teaching on discipleship. We took this as an encouragement to rectify some of our ways and habits. We saw this as a correction from the Lord that we were waiting for, for a long time. As we saw a huge amount of suffering we wanted to do more and more for Him and at the same time we tended to forget our personal, intimate relationship with Him. We are grateful that you continue to share your teachings which obviously contain a lot of study and hard work. Thank you. It was so good to fellowship with you.

We are continuing our Messianic fellowship meetings and have been studying the following topics: The right motivation in the Christian life: The correlation between salvation and discipleship: Are disciples born or made? These are hotly debated topics and we also explored the problems that come with Lordship salvation. We have also studied other topics such as: Whose work brings sanctification? : When the religious system wins over the biblical message: Does free grace lend itself to false security? : Judgments: every believer gets his reward before the Bema-seat. And as has already become tradition with us, this year we will once again have a Passover demonstration for our fellowship and for others who are ready to participate.

At the end of the year a friend of ours visited with his family. We had great fellowship, took communion together, and then had the privilege of baptizing his 19 year old daughter in our bathroom (see the picture). She is a professional figure skater, who participated in the Olympic Games this year. What a way to end off a year of blessings!

One member from our bible study, who is a Jewish believer and whose family lives in Shanghai said she is very thankful for the studies and the fellowship. She regularly sends the links of the mp3’s to her daughter. Her daughter is a believer and is the wife of the leader of the Jewish community in Shanghai. Her sons are also believers.

A Holocaust survivor, Suzanne, visited our fellowship and liked it very much. She was first with us first at a Pesach (Passover) demonstration earlier in this year.

We are continuing our weekly bible reading with our Jewish friends. Only God knows if we will see the results of this investment, but we are very thankful to be able to do this kind of evangelism and have good connections with Jewish people. In fact, one of our Jewish friends, Gabor invited us to his home for Sukkoth where Ivan blew the shofar for the fourth time. This man had invited other Jewish friends to his home for this event as well as for the celebration of Hanukah, when he explained the traditions surrounding this feast and invited us all to eat delicious Hungarian – Jewish doughnuts.

Our most important upcoming event of the year’s first half will take place in May when we will have our fourth Messianic conference with Dr. Fruchtenbaum.  The date is: May 22-27, 2018. This year we are blessed to have the organisation Midnight Call helping us out. They will provide the venue for the conference, which is centrally located in Budapest. They will also help to advertise for this event. The topic will be “The Life of Messiah from Jewish Perspective”, focusing primarily on the trial, death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua. It will also include studying the opening events found in the book of Acts, centering around the Feast of Weeks.  Ivan will be translating for Dr. Fruchtenbaum. We have already worked the PowerPoint slides into a bilingual version which will be a great help with the teaching. Please pray for this important event.

We worked on the correction of the booklet The Three Messianic Miracles. It is complete and ready for publication. We are hoping that the printed version will be ready for the conference.

A believer who was surfing the internet looking for a Messianic fellowship in Hungary came across our Homepage and realized she knew us for ten years. We had actually gone to the same congregation at one time. She first read Israelology, and then borrowed the Footsteps book from us. Both these books proved to be a great blessing to her and from that time on she has been following our teachings and bible studies through the website.

Ivan continues sharing the teachings from our Messianic Fellowship (in written and mp3 formats) on our Home and Facebook page. There are between 100 - 200 visitors who come onto our homepage blog.

Ivan is still working full time as a music teacher at a secondary school. In May, Noemi will finish high school and will then begin university. Please pray for her final exams in May. Rita continues to write articles about rising anti-Semitism in Hungary. Her health has improved a lot. Praise God.

We are very thankful for your prayers and for your interest in our ministry. We are praying for you to have a blessed year in 2018.  Shalom to all of you.

Ivan, Rita and Noemi

Newsletter Ari'El Hungary June 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In the last five months our ministry produced a wealth of fruit, to which we praise the Lord. Ivan is continuing to teach the Book of Revelation based on Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum’s Footsteps of the Messiah. We continue to have a good attendance of about 20-25 people. Our outreach is increasing on the international level having received questions from as far away as Norway. We are now able to do good quality recordings of our teaching sessions and have followers via the internet. These recordings can be found on our website. This is in addition to Ivan’s blog page on Facebook and on our website.

Our small Messianic fellowship continues its biweekly meetings. After the teaching we also have group discussions about relevant questions related to Bible prophecy. We enjoy our freedom to emphasize the things we hold important, primarily the teaching of scripture from a Jewish perspective. We make a special emphasis on Jewish feasts as well. There are several Jewish believers who are interested in our fellowship. One of them recently joined our fellowship. Her daughter (who is also a believer) is the wife of a rabbi in Hong Kong. Another Jewish believer who first attended our Bible study then joined our fellowship said that he enjoys the teaching and finds the group very friendly. He had not attended, for quite a while, any other place of worship although his father is a pastor in a charismatic church. He thinks our fellowship is more authentic than what he saw before. The place where we gather is the same as the Jewish quarter where our Bible school is. This flat is owned by our (non believer) Jewish friend with whom we have been reading the Bible for three years. We do not have to pay rent, so it is a real blessing from this Jewish man.

A female Holocaust survivor (Jewish), who is coming to our Bible study regularly, still has doubts about her faith in the Messiah, but invited Rita to be part of her very important life event. She, with Rita and another believer visited the Catholic sisterhood, call Good Shepherd, which saved her life and the lives of many other Jewish girls during the Holocaust. They heard the story of how the sisters who saved these Jewish girls put their own life into risk, and how they never asked any recognition for of it. Mariann wanted to get to know them (actually the rescuers did not live) and give them honour for their brave achievement. Another time we had a two hour discussion about salvation faith in Yeshua with this dear friend Mariann and her friend. We explained, very clearly, the uniqueness of salvation in Yeshua.

This year we had two Passover demonstrations. One of them was in our fellowship with some invited guests. One of our sisters invited a Jewish Holocaust survivor, who said after the event that she never felt the peace she experienced here. She also said it was beautiful to see the Jewish roots and Christian faith in a paralleled harmony. We were able to share with her the salvation in Yeshua. A Messianic believer attended this Passover and she lit the candles and prayed. The other demonstration was in the countryside at a Baptist church with 40 people. We were invited there by a couple who have been attending every Bible study for three years now. Ivan played a Jewish song on the piano before the message, then he taught about the Passover. When he finished many came (among them the pastor of the church) and expressed their thankfulness because they had never before seen this perspective presented. It also added to their understanding of communion. We, along with the organizers, cooked some foods for the Seder demonstration.

We received very positive feedback that some Bible study groups and local congregations are using Ariel materials published on our homepage. They are very thankful for the clear teaching of these Bible study materials.

Attila, who remade our homepage, is continuously maintaining it as a volunteer. It is a huge help for us and makes our modern communication more effective.

Rita wrote an article for the Ariel Magazine on her topic of Theology and Antisemitism. She is teaching the Come and See program for women who are attending our fellowship.

Ivan continues teaching diverse biblical themes on our homepage and on Facebook. Topics include the security of the believer, biblical and unbiblical motivations for following God, as well as understanding Bible verses in their proper context, etc.

One of the best fruits of Ivan's ministry is a Rom believer who was one of the leaders of a charismatic gipsy church. Ivan has been continuously teaching him for the last three years. He changed his mind on many doctrinal issues and has become a mature disciple. A couple of weeks ago the leadership asked his position concerning some theological questions and he was able to prepare himself and defend the truth in a worthy manner. Recently he started his own fellowship and bible study. Ivan will help him in the future too when he needs it.

We continue to read the Tanakh and also the Talmud with our Jewish friends. There are many possibilities to share our faith with others. Our Jewish friend who offers his apartment freely for us to use for the Bible study and for the fellowship has begun to read the Tanakh with his Jewish friends. We think it is very important for Jews to begin to read the Bible and we think that our Bible reading influenced his opinion concerning the scriptures.

The work of the “tentmaker” goes on. Ivan has been teaching music for 600 children at a high school and not everything is the same as in the movie “High School Musical”. But we are thankful to God that He provides a working opportunity to support ourselves. Ivan hopes he can use this period of holiday time to prepare himself for a new teaching series. Our continuous prayer is more free time in the future for the ministry.

We are thankful that we can share our ministry with you and your prayers mean a lot to us. We thank you for your support. May our Eternal Messiah blesses you.

Newsletter Ari'El Hungary December 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We leave a wonderful year behind us which included many Bible studies, and an ongoing home fellowship. In the new year ahead, starting January we are looking to  relocate to the city center. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the year for us was the summer conference with Dr. Arnold’s coming to Budapest. This was his third seminar here in the last four years, and we are hoping that was not the last one. Of course we respect the fact that this might not be possible with all that the Ariel School program entails.

The third Budapest Messianic Conference this past August with Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum was shorter than the two previous ones because of Arnold’s tight schedule after Camp and the fact that he was going to Poland for three weeks just after Hungary. Once again, Ivan carefully prepared for his role as translator; brushing up beforehand by studying The Five Warnings of the Book of Hebrews. Ivan also prepared the subjects The Reign of Emmanuel and The Servant of Jehovah, topics he covered with more ease.

The conference went very well. There was good attendance, great partnership with others in organizing the event and we were blessed to house the events in good central locations. Even though the first day of the conference was a national holiday, we had still 120 in attendance. On the second day there were approximately 200 and for the evening lecture we had 350 attend. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we had about 100 people attending each session. There were some groups who came from the countryside which is quite a long distance away. Arnold had many questions from  those who attended and there was a great demand for the mp3 recordings of the conference. We had these mp3’s available about one month later, thanks to some volunteer help. We advertized on Facebook, TV, and radio for the conference and we recognize the benefit many had in appreciating the teaching from a Jewish frame of reference.  Those who partnered with us to organize this event were very satisfied with the outcome.

During his stay here, Arnold also gave a one hour TV interview which will air later as a documentary on the Messianic movement.

From a personal standpoint, Ivan enjoyed the Book of Hebrews the most. It was around the time of the conference that Ivan was involved in a heated debate with a church leader about eternal security. The Five Warnings manuscript answered many of the most crucial questions concerning the eternal security of the believer. Arnold’s masterful explanation argued against many strong opponents who claim a lack of assurance for a believer’s salvation. Even after so many years of Camp we can still  learn new things from Arnold. We can’t wait for the next conference J

In June, July and August we gave three TV interviews which was hosted by a Messianic believer, Katalin. Rita spoke twice. She gave her testimony and then used the second interview to speak about her book, Theology and Antisemitism. Rita also addressed issues pertaining to Christian Zionism and why antisemitism was and is found in the church. Ivan spoke about Israel and the Church, the covenants, and the Messianic prophecies. This internet based TV program will be broadcasting to many different audiences, and will be aired on secular stations as well.

Since September, and because of financial needs, Ivan is working full time as a music teacher in a secondary school. Though his job requires many hours, he still continues the work of the ministry and devotes much of his free time to it in the evenings and on weekends. We know there can be times in the ministry when you have to do the work of a "tent maker" to support yourself so we are certainly thankful for the job. Our hope, of course and prayer request is that we can spend more time for ministry and less for "mammon" :-)

Since October Ivan has been teaching on the book of Revelation, based on Dr. Arnold's Footsteps of the Messiah. Forty people are attending this study. For this study, Ivan presented the four major views of Revelation and compared them.  He wanted to point out the differences between these four main theological camps and how each one sees the role of Israel and the Jews in the present and in the future. We prepared a detailed power point for the study. Rita taught three sessions on the theological reasons for antisemitism in church history, how antisemitism appeared in Christian Europe and how it affected the development of modern day anti-Jewish prejudices. She also spoke about how premillennialism affected pro-Israel politics, and the rescue of Jews during the Holocaust. At one of our Bible studies after Rita taught about the role of the churches in Hungary during the Holocaust, an interesting discussion developed. Mariann, a Jewish lady, told her personal story, how Catholic nuns rescued her as a child. However the church did not help many of the Jews, but instead contributed sadly to their tragic fate. Those who did rescue Jews were the exception and they so simply out of humanitarianism.

We continue our small biweekly messianic fellowship called Keren Yeshuah (Horn of Salvation) which we hope and pray will be the beginning of a future congregation. In January we will move this fellowship from our home to a more central location (to the Jewish quarter where our Bible study is taking place). At Keren Yeshuah Ivan translates and teaches Messianic Christology and other relevant topics.

In September Ronji and Bena Tanielu, travelling missionaries who we knew from Camp Shoshanah, arrived in Hungary. We had a great time of fellowship. We organized a Bible study for them. Twenty five people attended and heard their testimony. A lot of young people got inspired for future evangelism. We also organized a street evangelism outreach with Ronji and Bena. We were joined up with Jews for Jesus for this event. Please watch Bena's beautiful worship dance here.

After praying many years for this, a volunteer (Attila) approached us to help modernize our internet homepage. We worked a lot with him. After many weeks we have now finished the index page. Special thanks to Leah Kovtunenko for the beautiful pictures of Israel we are using on our website. The outcome is a totally new and modern look and operation. Please check us out at:

We meet often with individuals, couples and families, answering many of their bible questions and encouraging them to study the Bible more.

Ivan is posting weekly Bible studies on Facebook and on our homepage blog and we are seeing a growing interest. Rita continues to translate her book: Theology and Antisemitism. Another volunteer, Nanette, works hard to correct and edit the translation.

We had a meeting with a Jewish man, who attends our Bible study but he still has many questions and remains uncertain about his faith.

Since September we have been continuing the Bible reading program with our Jewish friend. We are reading the Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible as well as some short sections from the Talmud. These are great opportunities to share about our Messiah and also to get to know the Jewish way of thinking. In October, the same Jewish friend invited us to Succoth and Ivan got to blow the shofar. There were 50 participants, mostly Jewish people. We are trying to make friendships with Jewish people to build trust for a later possibility of sharing about the Jewish Messiah. We were invited to the birthday party of our Jewish friend, Mariann. There we also met many of her Jewish friends. We have a growing friendship with a Jewish twin brother and sister (who are believers), and we are answering many of their bible questions as well. Rita was invited to a Jewish women’s club event by an 87 year old Holocaust survivor. We are grateful for this connection. Ivan had the opportunity to give his testimony to his professional musician colleagues.

In October our friend Zoltan had successful open heart surgery. While there were serious complications at first he is now on the way to recovery and back to a normal life. He and his wife are planning to attend Camp Shoshanna this summer.

Praise Him that Rita’s health is better. She was able to stop a certain medicine after taking it for 28 years and so now she does not take any immune suppressive medicines since she was diagnosed with this autoimmune disease 28 years ago.

We would like to express our thankfulness for your prayers and support. We wish you Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas and all blessings in our Messiah Jeshua in the new year of  2017!

Shalom, Iván, Rita, Noemi
